Sobia Nasir, MD

I was born and spent my early years in the Indian subcontinent (Pakistan). In the early 1980s, my parents immigrated to Toronto, Canada, where I learned to adapt to a new culture and climate. Eager and enthusiastic, I quickly adjusted to the colder weather and new environment.

For my medical education, I returned to Pakistan and graduated in five years from the nation’s most prestigious and oldest institution, King Edward Medical College. Shortly after graduation, I got married and moved to Long Island, New York, where my husband was completing his GI fellowship. I fell in love with the cosmopolitan vibe of Manhattan and the breathtaking fall colors of upstate New York.

In 1998, we moved to Texas. I embraced the warm climate and peaceful environment, and we decided to settle down here. Since then, we’ve never thought of moving anywhere else. All three of our children were born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, a place we proudly call home.  Having lived in diverse regions, climates, and cultures, I’ve learned new languages and cuisines. My experiences have led me to a profound conclusion: all humans share common values of care, empathy, nurture, and the drive to achieve greatness.

In my spare time, I am passionate about exploring world history, traveling, and experiencing different cultures, cuisines, and art. I love yoga, Pilates, and being in nature, especially observing birds. Cooking authentic dishes and inviting family and friends into our home is one of my greatest joys. I deeply value the warmth and support of family, which inspired me to choose family medicine as my profession.
